When vacationing alone, it's wise to plan your hotel
stops ahead and provide emergency telephone numbers
for your family or friends. Freedom to do whatever
you want whenever you want is a big plus of "singledom". But for safety's sake, make sure that others have a pretty good idea where you're going to be in case of the worst!
Do a little research before hitting the trails. Make sure that you are aware of the terrain and altitude differences. If you're accustomed to hiking along the flat lands of the prairie but are headed for a week in the mountains, be aware that the change in altitude could (temporarily, at least) affect your breathing and overall stamina. The key is to know where you're headed and prepare yourself by increasing your fitness level prior to the hike.
Always "break in" your hiking boots before beginning your day-long trek. Wear your boots around the house, or when you`re out and about running weekend errands. Just make sure you`ve given your boots a good tryout before getting stuck out in the wilderness with a boot full of blisters!
Want to go on vacation but wary of going alone? Try group vacations for biking, hiking, walking, mountain climbing, cooking...just name your poison! Plus, by meeting people with similar interests, you just might not have to worry about a solo vacation again!
